PRECIS Project Closing Conference - 7-8 February 2011

On 7th and 8th February 2011 over 150 participants gathered in Chisinau, Moldova to conclude the five year Precis project (Prevention and Empowerment in CIS) of COC-Netherlands, GenderDoc-M and ILGA-Europe and LGBT organisations from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova and Ukraine.

The aim of the conference was to present lessons learned and to draw conclusions from the five years of work. The conference was also attended by human rights defenders, lawyers, psychologists, medical experts and journalists from all seven countries as well as the Moldovan ombudsman Tudor Lazar, Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of Human Rights Watch, UN office in Moldova, UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) and AMFAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research).

Workshops were organised across the project’s focus areas Lobby and Advocacy, HIV/AIDS monitoring and Prevention, Community empowerment and Capacity Building. ILGA-Europe jointly ran workshops on making arguments for anti-discrimination legislation (find the presentation of Beth Fernandez, Senior Programmes and Policy Officer here), Communicating in hostile environments, fundraising and the Committee of Ministers recommendation on Combatting Discrimination on basis of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.

ILGA-Europe is looking forward to continuing work with all Precis project partners either formally in future projects or through informal cooperation.
