Study visit to OSCE and KPH, 2-6 October 2011

On 2-6 October ILGA-Europe organsied a study visit for 10 activists from the Western Balkans and Russia to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and to Campaign Against Homophobia (KPH) - the leading LGBT organisation in Poland. The study visit was organised within the framework Step Up! project and Russian EIDHR project.

During the visit the activists participated in the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) of OSCE. The activists have made 3 interventions during tolerance and non-discrimination session of HDIM and spoke in our side event on Combating hate crime two years after Ministerial Council Decision 9/09. At the same time the participants met with the EU delegation at the OSCE and with Polish officials-the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice and Plenipotentiary of the Head of the Police for Human Rights. Some activists have also met with their national delegations at the OSCE. Meetings were also organised with ODIHR staff responsible for monitoring hate crimes and freedom of assembly in participating states. In addition, 2 sessions were organised by the members of KPH on their advocacy strategies, successful advocacy work both nationally and internationally.
